ELECTROSTATIC FOCUSING OF HOLLOW SPIRALING ELECTRON BEAMS.

Abstract

The first experimental tube with an endfire cathode failed due to an open heater. A redesigned cathode was tested in a vacuum bell jar and showed uneven heating. A further redesign produced a cathode which tested satisfactorily in the bell jar. A second experimental model incorporating the new cathode was processed extensively. However, the base overheated and the epoxy sealant leaked. The trajectory calculation program was completed, plotting ten electrons including space charge, and calculating and plotting the current in three collectors. (Author)
