A COMPANDED DELTASIGMA MODULATION SYSTEM,
Abstract
A hardware model of a speech coder is described, based on the principles of the G.E.C. Mk. 3 companded deltasigma modulator. Syllabic compression and expansion are incorporated in the system by using a pulse height modulator in the feedback path of the coder and a similar pulse height modulator at the decoder. The signal which controls the expansion at the decoder is implicit in the digital transmission from coder to decoder. The circuitry is constructed using digital and linear integrated circuits and some discrete components. The necessary audio filters are included in the equipment in active filter form. (Author)
