ABRASIVE WEAR RESISTANCE OF CONSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND MACHINE PARTS,

Abstract

The book deals with theoretical and applied problems of the wear resistance of materials and machine parts. Main attention is devoted to abrasive wear which shortens the service life of agricultural, mining, construction, and other machines and industrial equipment. The important problem of prolonging the service life of machine parts, in particular under extreme conditions (such as high temperatures or in contact with molten metals), is discussed. It is stressed that premature wearing away of machine parts is often the result of defective design or the wrong choice of materials. Testing techniques for wear resistance under various conditions of abrasive wear are discussed. Data are provided on the wear resistance of various materials, including plastics. General problems of the reliability and durability of machines in connection with the service life of machine parts are set forth. (Author)
