THE DESIGN PARAMETERS AND OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ELECTROSTATICALLY ACCELERATED MOLECULAR BEAM,

Abstract

A setup for the generation of molecular beams is described. Beams are formed by extracting ions from a Finkelstein source and accelerating them electrostatically. Ion beams of 5 microamps/sq cm were generated. Fifty percent of the beam had an energy spread of less then 5 ev. Neutral beams whose intensities were a tenth of the ion beam current were generated by a charge exchange process. (Author)
