PYROMETER FOR MEASURING TEMPERATURES BELOW 800C,

Abstract

A new type of pyrometer with a disappearing filament, especially adapted for determining temperatures below 800 deg C, is proposed. The new pyrometer contains all the essential parts of an ordinary instrument, but their arrangement is quite different. The objective creates an image of the body whose temp. is measured in the plane of a semitransparent prism. The bright filament is thus observed directly and the body in reflected light. The lower transparence of the prism decreases the apparent temp. of filament while its real temp. is unchanged. Experimental investigations with the new pyrometer show that the limit is about 480 deg. C.
