ELECTRONIC FREQUENCY ENCODER,

Abstract

A frequency encoder is described in which the input signal frequency is converted to a pulse train with equal repetition frequency. The pulse train is applied to a pulse counter which counts the number of pulses per time unit (1 sec), providing a binary code equivalent to the input signal frequency. The counter consists of 22 stages: the first four utilize fast-switching P402 transistors, the next four utilize P14 transistors, and the remaining stages are of the core-transistor type. The parallel binary code at the counter output is converted to series code prior to transmission to a digital computer which controls the whole encoder. The frequency encoder range extends from 50 Hz to 4 MHz. (Author)
