A CLASS OF SIMPLE SOLIDS WITH FADING MEMORY,

Abstract

This paper is concerned with non-isothermal constitutive equations and related thermodynamical results for a class of simple solids with fading memory. Our development is partly motivated by, and also bears on, 'thermo-rheologically simple' materials. After motivating and developing the forms of the constitutive relations (and the expression for internal dissipation) within the framework of the theory of simple materials with fading memory, detailed attention is given to the construction of a non-isothermal finite linear theory of viscoelasticity. Some remarks on simplification of the results and their forms when the deformation is infinitesimal are also included. (Author)
