PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF AN ACOUSTIC WATER TUNNEL,

Abstract

The report describes various water tunnel configurations suitable for acoustical studies together with appropriate design calculations and an estimate of power requirements for the various tunnel designs. The general tunnel requirements which were used are (1) Mach numbers in the range of 1,000,000, (2) a test section large enough to handle small models, and (3) acoustically treated walls and quiet pumping. Preliminary cost estimates of several tunnel configurations are also included. (Author)
