THE EFFECT OF 5-HYDROXYTRYPTOPHANE (SEROTONIN PRECURSOR) ON FOOD CONDITIONED REFLEXES IN RABBITS,

Abstract

Data are presented on the influence of the serotonin precursor (5-hydroxytryptophane) on the conditioned food-procuring reflex in nine rabbits. Doses of 0.01 mg/kg to 5 mg/kg were injected intravenously. They inhibited the conditioned food-procuring reflex, which was expressed in a longer latency of the reflex and a lesser number of intersignal responses. The degree of inhibition decreased as the dose of the administered substance increased. One rabbit exhibited an excitatory effect of 0.01-0.5 mg/kg of hydroxytryptophane, which was apparently due to the animal's individual peculiarities. (Author)
