DECISION-THEORETIC PSYCHOMETRICS.

Abstract

At the start the notion that confidence testing could improve personnel selection, classification, training, and education was largely a matter of conjecture. Theoretical and mathematical studies showed under what conditions confidence test could improve upon the choice testing in current use. The practicality and feasibility of confidence testing was observed in public school and military populations. Data were collected and techniques were used to confirm the predicted advantages of confidence testing over choice testing. Arrangements were made with research and training organizations of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, to conduct large scale field testing. Some field evaluations were completed. Very little doubt remains as to the superiority of confidence testing over choice testing. (Author)
