MEETING OF PRELIMINARY SURVEYORS, GEODETIC SIGN BUILDERS, AND OBSERVERS (Soveshchaniya Rekognostsirovshchikov, Stroitelei Geoznakov i Nablyudatelei),

Abstract

The meeting on preliminary surveying and construction works took place in Sverdlovsk, USSR on February 23-25, 1966, and the meeting on angular measurements on the points of the national geodetic network was held in Novosibirsk, USSR on March 15-17, 1966. The participants were those engaged in the fields of geodesy, aerial surveying and cartography. Discussions were held on production problems, and on an exchange of experiences. At the Sverdlovsk meeting the main problems discussed were methods used in the preliminary surveying of the points of triangulation nets, and the quality of the constructed signals. Resolutions passed during the conference reflected the need to establish an apprenticeship for young specialists on practice traverses; the need to issue a practical manual on observations; the need for regular control of the work by field brigades; the need for annual analysis of observation materials, in order to take measures to raise the quality of works, and the need to prepare qualitative norms for work and rates for financial payments, depending on the quality of work.
