COMPRESSIBILITY OF ARGON SUBJECTED TO STRONG ADIABATIC COMPRESSION,

Abstract

The relation between the volume of argon and pressure upon strong adiabatic compression was studied. The study was carried out at pressures of 2100-7000 kg/sq cm, at which the density of the gas reached 0.175-0.360 g/cc. On the basis of the experimental data, the Poisson coefficient, the adiabatic coefficient of compression, the density, and the sound velocity were determined, which had values close to those for an ideal gas.
