ORTHOTROPIC ANALYSIS OF TUBULAR STRUCTURE.

Abstract

The problem of determining elastic constants of an orthotropic material is analytically investigated. It is shown that, contrary to previous thoughts on the matter, a cross-shaped specimen is not suitable for such an analysis. Instead, a multi-fiber reinforced thin tube is competitive with that of the cross-shaped specimen, and the computation of stresses from external load presents no problem (in other words, the stresses are completely independent of fiber geometry). In the present investigation, a Fortran program to determine engineering elastic constants is established and is appended to this report. (Author)
