THE INFLUENCE OF MESSAGE ORGANIZATION AND STYLE STRATEGIES ON COMPREHENSION AND DECISION-MAKING. REPORT NO. 2. THE INFLUENCE OF MESSAGE ORGANIZATION, TYPE OF INTRODUCTION, SOURCE PLACEMENT, AND PRESENTATION OF QUANTITIES ON COMPREHENSION AND DECISION CHANGE.

Abstract

This is the second report in a series of three dealing with the influence of strategies of preparing messages and their relation to comprehension, decision change, and decision certainty. In the second experiment employing messages about shade trees, two of the strategies were the type of introduction used (neutral or conclusion-drawing) and placement of the source of the information content (early or late in the message). In addition, the type of organization (context or comparative) and the quantification of facts were studied. (Author)
