Investigations pertaining to atmospheric circulation in the northern and southern hemispheres and above the earth in general are surveyed. The author presents a quantitative analysis of cyclone and anticyclone activity. The survey covers the following topics: general features of atmospheric circulation; the state of cyclones and anticyclones in the northern hemisphere; position of the planetary high altitude frontal zone and the quantitative relationships for cyclones and anticyclones in the northern hemisphere; problems of atmospheric circulation theory and the cyclone-anticyclone activity.
