GROUND-BEETLES, DESTROYERS OF IXODID TICKS,

Abstract

It was established that ticks and rodents, and also the corpses of rodents, are destroyed by the following species of ground-beetles: Carabus exaratus Quens., Carabus cumanus Fisch.-W., Carabus coriaceus L., Carabus clathratus L., Calosoma denticolle, Calosoma auropunctata, Sphodrus leucophthalmus. Consequently these species may be regarded as destroyers of ticks and of the bodies of murine rodents during epizootics; Also of the broods of these rodents in collective-farm fields and pastures.
