ENERGY-LINKED REACTIONS IN CHEMOAUTOTROPHIC ORGANISMS.

Abstract

It will be shown in this article that energy-linked reactions are indispensable elements of the assimilation of energy by chemoautotrophic organisms. Without recognition of energy-linked reactions as participants in this process, it would be impossible to understand it at all. However, once this is understood, energy-linked reactions resolve the energy conversion of chemoautotrophs into simple sequences of well defined chemical interactions. These reactions start out with the inorganic substrate. By harvesting and channeling the energy of the inorganic molecule into the energy of DPNH and ATP, the prerequisites of carbon assimilation are provided. (Author)
