FILTRABLE FORMS OF LACTOBACILLI

Abstract

Out of 60 filtrations of an old and a young culture there was found in nine experiments filtrable forms of Bact. delbrueckii that appeared as minute cells, primarily of an oval form. An inspection of these cultures with an electron microscope enables one to draw the conclusion that the increase in the number of oval-form cells occurs from more minute cells that are invisible to an ordinary microscope.
