MANUFACTURING METHODS FOR CONICAL GAS BEARINGS.

Abstract

The development of methods of manufacture of conical gas bearing surfaces on a cylindrical grinding machine is described. The work is principally directed towards reducing the cost of gas bearings for precision gyroscopes, but has application to bearings for other purposes. The results of some early manufacturing trials are discussed and means for further simplifying the manufacturing method are suggested. (Author)
