ON NORMAL COORDINATES,

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is the effective transformation to normal coordinates of the system of linear differential equations Summation from k = 1 to n of (f sub jk)(D)(x sub k) = y sub j(t), (j=1,...,n) where D is the differential operator d/dt and the letters x sub k denote the unknown functions of the independent variable t; the (f sub jk)(D)'s and y sub j(t)'s are given functions of their arguments, the first set being simply polynomials of any finite degrees with constant coefficients.
