A MULTISTAGE PROCESS FOR THE SELECTION OF OPTIMUM DIMENSIONS FOR ELECTRICAL MACHINES,

Abstract

The paper considers the problem of the optimal design of electrical machines a general problem of nonlinear programming in a formulation such as to permit the use of modern computers employing mathematical programming techniques. Methods for finding the maximum function of many variables (limited and unlimited search methods) are briefly reviewed. A multistage process is proposed for the solution of optimization problems, with primary attention given to the logical structure of a multistage computer model. The consecutive approximation method underlying the multistage search process is analyzed, and it is shown how such computer models for any number of unknown variables can be described.
