THE STEADY-STATE AND OSCILLATORY HYDRODYNAMICS OF A 20 DEGREE DEADRISE PLANING SURFACE.

Abstract

The hydrodynamic performance of a 20 deg deadrise planing surface was studied. Experiments were conducted in a high-speed, recirculating water channel. Results are compared with data of previous investigators and with the predictions of an existing planing surface theory. Agreement is very good between earlier towing tank data, the present steady-state test results, and steady-state theory. Good correspondence also exists between oscillatory test data and quasi-steady theory, but scatter in the oscillatory data prevents a rigorous verification of this theory. (Author)
