TWO LAYER ABLATION AT AN AXISYMMETRIC STAGNATION POINT.

Abstract

A study was made of the ablation of a melting and vaporizing substance near an axisymmetric stagnation point. The two region boundary layer is considered with reasonably accurate descriptions of viscosity and conductivity together with the multi-component diffusion matrix. The equations are solved by a formal integration followed by an iteration procedure based on successive approximation. Although no solutions were obtained, data corresponding to high altitude hypersonic flight with silicon dioxide as the ablating material are included for possible future numerical work. (Author)
