HYDROELASTIC ANALYSIS OF A CIRCULAR CYLINDER,

Abstract

A numerical method of two-dimensional separated flow analysis was previously applied to an immersed circular cylinder at rest. This method, which is based on potential theory, was extended in the study to the case of a flexibly restrained circular cylinder in accelerated motion. Theoretical development of the mathematical model and formulation of the associated computer program are described. Computer results of flow development are presented for an example case of a lightly damped, elastically supported circular cylinder in tune with the Strouhal frequency. (Author)
