EFFECT OF HEAT TREATMENT ON THE STRENGTH OF COMPRESSOR BLADES FROM TITANIUM ALLOYS,
Abstract
The fatigue, stress hardening, and residual stresses of compressor blades from BT3, BT8, and OT4-1 titanium alloys have been investigated. Final manual polishing induced residual tensile stresses in the surface layer of the blades; fatigue investigation of the blades showed that the service life was reduced by surface layer instability due to manual polishing. In order to increase the fatigue limit, the surface of BT3-alloy blades was subjected to shot peening; the fatigue limit after shot peening increased by 10-12%, the surface quality improved, and the service life was more stable.
