FLUORINATED POLYBENZIMIDAZOLES. II,
Abstract
The paper describes the synthesis and properties of poly-N, N'-dimethyl- and poly-N, N'-diphenyl-2, 2'-perfluorotrimethylene-5, 5'-dibenzimidazoles and their hydrogen analogs, obtained respectively by condensing diphenyl esters of perfluoroglutaric and glutaric acids with 4, 4'-bis(methylamino)-3, 3'-diaminodiphenyl and 4, 4'-dianilino-3, 3'-diaminodiphenyl. It was found that the thermal stability (in a vacuum) of polyperfluorotrimethylene-5, 5'-dibenzimidazole does not increase upon methylation at the nitrogen atom, but does increase considerably upon phenylation. In thermal stability in a vacuum, poly-N, N'-diphenyl-2, 2'-perfluorotrimethylene-5, 5'-dibenzimidazole slightly surpasses poly-N, N'-dimethyl-2, 2'-trimethylene-5, 5'-dibenzimidazole. Poly-N, N'-diphenyl-2, 2'-perfluorotrimethylene-5, 5'-dibenzimidazole and poly-N, N'-dimethyl-2, 2'-trimethylene-5, 5'-dibenzimidazole also were found to be the most stable compounds under conditions of thermal-oxidative degradation.
