R/V CHAIN CRUISE NO. 75. SUMMARY CRUISE REPORT PREPARED BY CHIEF SCIENTIST TRACT CHARTS, BATHYMETRY, AND LOCATION OF OBSERVATIONS, NORTH ATLANTIC OCEAN-CARIBBEAN SEA, LESSER ANTILLEAN ARC AND MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE SURVEY.
Abstract
This report contains a summary and charts for R/V CHAIN Cruise 75 in the North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea with surveys over the Lesser Antillean Arc and Mid-TLANTIC Ridge. There are 57 charts plotted on a Mercator Projection (scale 1 degree longitude equals 4 inches) showing the track of the entire cruise except for special surveys. All types of observations made during the cruise are noted by suitable symbols or legends along the ship's track. The locations of special surveys are shown on Chart I. Charts II, III, and IV show special observations made during the Mid-Atlantic Ridge survey. There are three pages listing information gathered at each of the 49 stations made. Also included are duplicate track sheets showing total intensity magnetic field measurements (in gammas). Soundings are read at equal time intervals, usually every ten minutes, and in some cases at each break in slope. They are written along the ship's track as often as space permits. Soundings are based on a sound velocity of 800 fathoms/second and are corrected only for the depth of transducer. (Author)
