A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR DISCOVERING CAUSAL INFLUENCES EXERTED BY TWO VARIABLES ON EACH OTHER.

Abstract

A method is developed to study possible causal influences exerted by two variables on each other. The method makes use of an experimental scheme introduced by Lazarsfeld in which dichotomous measurements are made on each variable at two different points in time. Several types of influence are defined in such a way that they can be studied by looking at interactions in certain 2 x 2 contingency tables. (Author)
