NEURONAL PATTERNS ASSOCIATED WITH AFFECTIVE RESPONSES.
Abstract
The discharges of individual nerve cells of the hypothalamus and basal telencephalic structures have been recorded by microelectrodes placed using stereotaxic coordinates. The neuronal firing patterns were examined from the standpoint of the latency of discharge, latency variation and interspike intervals distribution. Changes induced in the neuronal patterning after stimulation of different portions of the amygdala were analyzed and correlated with the location of the units. Finally information was obtained concerning the role of the stria terminalis fibres, afferent to the amygdala, in the generation of neuronal activity in the hypothalamus. Results are discussed in relation with neuronal mechanisms underlying affective behavior. (Author)
