THE TIME-DEPENDENCE OF ULTIMATE PROPERTIES IN RUBBERS.

Abstract

The principles of time-temperature superposition were applied successfully to the ultimate properties of filler-reinforced noncrystallising rubbers. By utilizing the relation between ultimate strain and reduced strain rate it is possible to construct 'tensile failure bands' in which the maximum and minimum time to failure is shown as a function of initial stress or strain. These results are only applicable to rubbers under uniaxial tensile stress. (Author)
