POLYMERS AND PLASTICS,

Abstract

The report highlights the second Conference on the use of plastics in mechanical engineering was held in Moscow in January 1967. Topics covered included: use of new polymetric materials and plastics; introduction of new designs; mastering of new processing equipment. The Conference stressed progress achieved in the fields of the mechanics of polymers, strength calculation of parts, and studies of the physical and mechanical properties of polymera. The Conference noted certain shortcomings of the USSR plastics industry: inadequate use of plastics in mechanical engineering, poor quality of materials, absence of standard specifications for certain materials, insufficient training of specialists, and absence of a leading scientific-research organization responsible for the quality of polymeric materials and their use in mechanical engineering.
