DISLOCATION-ENERGY ANALYSIS OF STRENGTHENING AND PROSPECTS OF INCREASING CYCLIC STRENGTH OF METALS,

Abstract

Analysis shows that further increase of strength and life of machine parts is possible with such change of structural state which ensures effective arrestment of dislocations and other defects in metal. The greater the ability of a metal in given structural state to arrest developing dislocations and other defects, the more effectively will the reserves of strength of the given metal be utilized. Maximum utilization of bond strength is attained with 100% holdup of developing dislocations. (Author)
