EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE TRANSFORMATION OF LASER RADIATION BY OPTICAL SYSTEMS,

Abstract

The cross section of 6328-A He/Ne-laser beams during propagation through the atmosphere and through optical systems was investigated. After demonstrating the Gaussian nature of the TEM sub 00 mode of this laser, an empirical formula was derived which described the beam broadening during propagation. Nonuniform intensity distribution was shown to be caused by interference phenomena upon passage through various lens systems.
