THE USE OF POLYMER MATERIALS FOR LUBRICATION,

Abstract

A method is described whereby self-lubricating 'polymer materials' are used to lubricate a planetary transmission operating under a vacuum of .000001 torricelli. Experiments were performed with the following lubricants: vacuum 'Maslyanit', pure fluoroplast-4, and flurorplast-4 with 30% powdered tin bronze filler. Washers made of these materials were placed between balls rolling on the gear teeth so that the ball surfaces became coated with dry lubricant in the course of meshing. The experimental setup is illustrated and described.
