DECK SHOCK MACHINE,

Abstract

The report describes a proof testing facility designed and constructed by Naval Construction Research Establishment for applying shock motion, similar in character to that experienced by decks of ships and submarines as a result of non-contact underwater explosions, to items of equipment up to some 1,500 lb. in weight. The mounting table is 9 ft. x 3 1/2 ft. Arrangements are incorporated to permit both vertical and horizontal excitation to be applied to the test item. The resulting motion gives a velocity time relation closely approximating a lightly damped sinusoid. This permits relatively easy theoretical prediction of the response of equipment on test and these predictions to be correlated with experiment. (Author)
