STATISTICAL DETERMINATION OF CONFIDENCED SAFE FATIGUE LIFE FOR THE 175MM M113E1 GUN TUBE.

Abstract

The probability of experiencing failures at the origin of rifling before chamber failures for the 175mm M113E1 tube is calculated. Based on the conclusion that origin failures will not occur before chamber failures, a safe life of 2350 rounds is calculated for a reliability of 0.999 and a confidence of 0.90. The three parameter Weibull was used to represent the failure density. Confidencing was achieved through a general Bayesian technique. (Author)
