KINETICS OF STORED-ENERGY ACCUMULATION IN ALKALI HALIDE CRYSTALS AFTER PROTON BOMBARDMENT,

Abstract

The accumulation kinetics of stored energy in crystals of NaCl, KCl, KBr, and KI were studied after room-temperature bombardment with 4.5-MeV cyclotron protons at an intensity of 4.2 x 10 to the 10th power particles/sec. sq. cm. for times from 15 min to 6 h. It was found that the amount of stored energy increases with the lattice energy of the crystal and that under the conditions of the experiment accumulation takes place in two stages: a fast stage associated with F-centers and a slow stage associated with complex electronic centers.
