ELECTRON MICROSCOPY OF DEFECTS IN CRYSTALS.

Abstract

The grant has been used to start a group, using an electron microscope with a liquid-helium stage to investigate crystals, and defects in crystals, at low temperatures. The report summarizes the work done by Messrs. Ball and Thomas and the publications resulting from this work. Mr. Ball's thesis title is 'The Nucleation, Growth and Defect Structure of Condensed Gas Films,' and Mr. Thomas' 'Low Energy Ion Bombardment of Metals.' Some nine publications have resulted from this work and several more are in preparation.
