LOCAL MODES AND RESONANCE SCATTERING IN CRYSTALS.

Abstract

The report reviews results that concern both lattice and electronic response functions of imperfect alkali halides. Particular attention was paid to sound and ultrasound propagation, optical activity in far infrared and infrared regions, bulk and local elastic constants, local anharmonicities, local lattice instabilities (a preliminary account), optical activity in the ultraviolet and visible regions, and Raman activity in the ultraviolet region. The results concern also, in indirect way, the thermal conductivity of imperfect alkali halides. (Author)
