QUANTUM LIMITATIONS TO ELECTROMAGNETIC SIGNAL MEASUREMENTS.

Abstract

Results are reported on an investigation of single photoelectron counting as a means of communication detection. This investigation has displayed the feasibility of successive time interval photoelectron counting. The development of a signal representation alternative to periodic sampling for the digital simulation of analog signal processing is also reported. This new signal representation, called the Poisson transform signal representation, offers advantages over periodic sampling for the digital filtering of rapidly varying signals. (Author)
