A NEW CONCEPT IN HEATER DESIGN.
Abstract
The feasibility of designing high pressure (30,000 p.s.i.) high temperature (4000R) heaters for running times between 10 and 15 seconds is discussed in detail. Preliminary designs for three different concepts are then presented, and an analysis of the performance characteristics of each of the designs is carried out. The results indicate that a cored brick heater with a coaxial arrangement for the bricks, and with one-half the amount of insulation required for standard heaters is a feasible design for heating air. An alternate design for a heater utilizing tungsten mesh screens is also presented for preheating nitrogen. (Author)
