THE IMPACT OF A VISCOPLASTIC ROD AGAINST A RIGID BARRIER,

Abstract

The impact of a viscoplastic rod against a fixed barrier is considered. In general, the solution of the problem reduces to consideration of a heat-conduction equation with a moving boundary. A method of approximation of the solution to the problem is proposed in which the mass of the rod is replaced by a series of concentrated masses, located in the middle of zero-inertia parts of a rod of equal length. Thereby, the problem reduces to the consecutive solution of systems of ordinary differential equations with variable (with the development of the impact) number of unknown functions - the velocities of the concentrated masses.
