CERTAIN QUESTIONS OF THE INTERACTION OF A DIGITAL COMPUTER WITH A CONTROL DEVICE,

Abstract

The process of the interaction between a computer and its control apparatus is investigated for computers operating as matching elements of specialized queueing systems as the most promising, although also most complex structurally. Problems of representing the interaction process by means of functions of algebraic logic and determining the possibilities for matching a computer to a given set of external devices in the transmission time of a single message are considered. A structural estimate of the machine based on the derived quantitative relations is presented. Conditions for the switching of message transmission channels are determined for various schemes of interaction. The equations and operating principle of the main elements of priority circuits are given. The conditions for interaction without loss of information, serving as the basis for formulating the principal requirements for the logic structure of the computer, are defined. The possibility of utilizing the apparatus of algebraic logic for the analysis of interaction circuits as well as for the analysis and synthesis of circuits of the commutator of input and output channels is demonstrated.
