CHEMICAL REACTION CHARACTERISTICS IN SUBLIMATING HYBRID SYSTEMS,

Abstract

A study was made of laminar flow around a sublimating plane plate by a compressible gas (oxidizer). The plate material exerts a partial vapor pressure in the incident flow which is smaller than the saturated vapor pressure at the surface temperature. If the surface temperature is lower than the temperature at a ternary point of the phase diagram, then the plate material will sublimate without passing through the liquid phase. It is assumed that the plate material consists of a hybrid system and sublimates when the mass velocity of the combustion component is higher than the stoichiometric quantity corresponding to the oxidizer quantity in the sublimating mixture.
