A STATISTICAL ERROR ANALYSIS OF THE GYROCOMPASS,

Abstract

The accuracy of a gyrocompass is dependent not only upon the sophistication of its components, but also upon the response of the system to both random and deterministic inputs. It is on the basis of the above concept that this report develops a gyrocompass system model and a method by which a statistical analysis may be performed on this and other gyrocompass systems. The results indicate what sort of output should be expected for various input conditions. Conclusions are drawn with regard to dominant sources of error, and recommendations are made concerning further research which is necessary in this particular area. (Author)
