A BATDORF TYPE MODIFIED EQUATION FOR THE STABILITY ANALYSIS OF ANISOTROPIC CYLINDRICAL SHELLS.

Abstract

The paper develops a simplified method for the stability analysis of anisotropic cylindrical shells subjected to various loading conditions. The result is a single fourth-order differential equation in the radial displacement w. The resulting equation is analogous to Batdorf's modified equation and reduces to this equation for the case of isotropic materials. Numerical results are presented for plywood cylinders and application of the development to shells of various wall constructions is discussed. (Author)
