A THREE-PARAMETER FAMILY OF STABLE DIFFERENCE METHODS FOR ONE-DIMENSIONAL ACOUSTIC VIBRATIONS.
Abstract
A three-parameter family of difference methods for solving the system of partial differential equations of one-dimensional acoustic vibrations is determined. Insistence on stability, combined with a demand to maximize the permissible value of delta t/delta x leads us to rediscover Lax's method for one-dimensional acoustics. (Author)
