THERMOLUMINESCENT DOSIMETRY AND ITS USE AT THE US ARMY NUCLEAR DEFENSE LABORATORY,
Abstract
The report discusses CaF2:Mn and LiF thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD). CaF2:Mn vacuum tube TLD and 1/2 mini TLD provide reliable gamma-exposure measurements from 5,000 to 50,000 R. Used with energy discrimination and 6LiF thermal neutron shields, the TLD are energy independent and thermal neutron insensitive. The LiF TLD rods provide inexpensive tissue-equivalent measurements of gamma radiation from 10 to 10,000 R. Thermal neutron response can be made insignificant by using 7Li enriched phosphor. Numerical corrections can be made for fast neutron contributions to LiF and CaF2:Mn TLD response.
