AN IMPULSE TECHNIQUE FOR THE GENERATION OF NARROW RF PULSES.

Abstract

The report summarizes an impulse technique for the generation of nanosecond pulses in the microwave region. Discussed are the impulse responses of ideal low and bandpass filters, as well as the response of an ideal high pass filter to a band limited impulse and their relationship to each other and to the problem. Also discussed is a technique for the generation of a very narrow pulse to approximate an impulse. Impressing this narrow pulse onto the input of a bandpass filter (1-2 GHz traveling wave tube) resulted in the generation of two nanosecond RF pulses at a peak power of 0.5 watt. (Author)
