AN EVALUATION OF THE TOUGHNESS OF METALLIC MATERIALS BASED UPON ENERGY DISSIPATION.

Abstract

On the evaluation of the toughness of metallic materials was an advancement of the state of the art. Because of the absence of oscillations, the oscilloscope trace was well delineated. As a result a correlation was made possible between actual mechanical test results and specific portions of the oscilloscope trace. Static tensile properties such as ultimate and yield load, and per cent elongation could be determined within experimental error from the oscilloscope trace. (Author)
